The hard questions

Why give awards to films made with artificial intelligence tools?

The award goes to the people who made the film. What counts is the story, the hand of the person whose name is on it and the responsibility for the result.

Are you taking away jobs?

Cinema is already changing. We want that change to be seen and argued over in the cinema, with the people who work in film. Anyone afraid for their craft has a place on the stage.

What data are the models trained on?

A fair question, with no easy answer. The production journal asks you to name the tools and any material that isn't yours. Transparency about training data is down to the people who build the models.

How do you know a film is telling the truth in its journal?

The festival certifies nothing. Every film says how it was made and has a person who answers for it. The jury reads and decides.
